Have had the pleasure of corresponding with Walker (Bud) Mahurin who flew P-47’s in the 56th FG (63 FS). He has assisted me in the ultimate research into the death of my uncle, who was a Luftwaffe pilot. Mahurin shot down 3 German aircraft that day, as did Vance Ludwig.

My father, LT EDWARD KANTORSKI flew P47’s with the 358th FG, 366 Fighter Squadron. He was part of D-DAy and we love to hear the stories. He would love to hear from fellow P47 pilots. I am trying to get him to join the Association.

As a guest of the Emperor of Japan for 3 years 7months 13 days as a POW. They were a regular visitor around our aera as escorts of the bombers which visited, and were a welcomed sight, thanks Flyboys for your encouragement in those troubled times in a faraway land with difficult times and foreign language, and nothing to eat, amd plenty of work in those 14 hour days, and clubs an guns, swords to remind us, death was next door. Freedom was always in our mind and very few of us made it home, malaria finally took its toll on me and my weight dropped to 88lb at weighin at Palawan, PI 0n Sept 13,1945, after we were found 1/2 dead on that date. Why am I alive, I think I was kept alive to speak for those who, were killed for many reasons, starved, beaten to death, beheaded and all the other reasons only four of our Death Ten (Japs assigned to groups to kill when the time came )to impliment ’THE ORDER TO KILL’ came out alive. THANKS for the two Big bombs. Sorry I got started on this FREEDOM binge, by the way, Look out the windows this morn and listeten to the birds and you don’t see a Jap or gun in sight, and the air doesn’t smell of dead bodys, cordite, thats FREEDOM. Thanks for the space.

I am wondering whether anyone could perhaps steer me in the right direction - I am trying to find some photographs to use as scale documentation for a radio controlled P47D I am building. I am after photos of an 8th AF, 78th FG P47D ’razorback’, in D-Day invasion stripes. The 83rd squadron jug HL-O ’Lil Eva’ is the particular one I’m ideally after, but any other aircraft of similar markings would be considered. MX-W ’Miss Behave’ is the only one similar I’ve seen good photos of, but consequently has been modelled extensively; I’m hoping to come up with a different machine if possible. If anyone thinks they can be of any assistance I’d really appreciate it.

Great site. Was a Spitfire squadron guy myself but have a great buddy who flew P47s, Bob O’Neill, shot down just after D-Day, evaded, and still larger than life in New Orleans.

Hello all... I just got back from visiting with my mom in Southern CA. While there I sifted through a ton of my father’s old photo’s etc. Among the treasures, I found a large pack of short snorters. All types of currency - all ripped in half and signed by groups of pilots and crew. I saw at least one with Don Gentile’s signature and really haven’t had time yet to examine them fully. I was hoping someone could give me the rules of the ’short snorter.’ With very much respect.... Dave Raphael sends

Hey guys, your site’s really great!!Well, I have to say thank you- allied pilots and soldiers, for what you have done in WW2. Unfortunately in my country there aren’t any veterans of then. So, it would be very nice if a veteran would write me a letter. Ok, once again, thanks a lot!

A SAD PASSING - A good friend of Americans, and in particular the men who flew the skies of Normandy during WWII, has passed away. PATRICK DELAHAYE, approximately 36 years of age, died on Monday, Aug. 21, 2000 while building a house in Normandy. Patrick apparently suffered a massive heart attack. He has been a close friend, no brother, to me since locating my dad’s crash site in Octeville in 1993. He has assisted nurmerous families of Allied pilots in research to learn more about what happened to those who sacrificed their lives in the Normandy Campaign. I cannot believe this fine man is gone from us. He had planned to visit in our home for the first time in October. All of us have lost a very dear friend. God bless you Patrick, and keep your wife and children in His loving care. Harry

Nice site..!! My father was a Fighter Pilot with Zemkes Wolf Pack, in the 63rd FS. Before he died 10 yrs ago we used to talk regularly about his days flying in WWII. To all the Jug pilots out there... write some of this stuff down because otherwise it will be forgotten. Secondly, I’ve heard some other stories from family freinds, and I’m waiting to hear from some of the women who flew Jugs..!!! There were plenty of women who delivered aircraft all over and flew many P-47’s...
